Other Projects: Letters of a Love Betrayed
Letters of a Love Betrayed
A new opera has been commissioned from composer Eleanor Alberga, with a libretto by Donald Sturrock, based on the Isabel Allende story Cartas de Amor Traicionado.

This is a joint commission from the Royal Opera House and Music Theatre Wales for performances at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in 2009 and a subsequent tour. The production will be directed by Michael McCarthy and conducted by Michael Rafferty.

The story, from the collection Cuentos de Eva Luna, tells of the orphan Anala and the betrayals that both subjugate and motivate her. At its heart is the presence and absence of love: the love of a parent, a suitor, a lover and a child.

This tale, at once melodramatic and powerfully personal, will be brought to life by Alberga, whose evocative meditations have a poetic quality She also has the flair for striking gestures and for imaginative tone colouring (Barry Millington, The Times).
